I got a free subscription to Martha Stewart Living. Most of the time I find the recipes and DIY projects a little expensive for my taste, but when I saw an easy way to make envelopes from fabric I knew this was somethng I could do. The picture below is the article I tore out from the magazine and added to my file. Last week the mood hit and I made one of these myself.
The first thing you need to do is paint both sides of the fabric with Mod-Podge.
You will need to hang the fabric up for an hour or so until it is dry. I made this mini clothesline in our kitchen by attaching yarn to two drawer pulls.
After the fabric is dry use an envelope as a template and cut around the edges.
Fold the fabric to look like the envelope. I put a baggie inside the envelope and then "mod-podged" (there I go... using that word as a verb again) the seams together.
I then let the envelope dry for another hour or so.
The final project turned out cute. I definitely want to try making some more. Notice the brown spotches on the finished project? I made the mistake of letting the envelope dry on the cardboard and when I tried picking it up some of the cardboard stuck.
